IKEA Prepares For the Year 2040

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Recently, IKEA surveyed 2,000 people as to what they expect kitchens to look like in the future. It is no surprise that people believed their kitchens would rely heavily on technology and be more self-sufficient.

As a result of the survey, the “SKARP” concept kitchen was born. This futuristic kitchen includes a remote control cooker, 3D food printer, and an interactive refrigerator with cooking tutorials, self-cleaning surfaces, height adjustable cabinets, and an energy monitor.

Some of what they hope will be in future a kitchen exists now: retractable shelves, genetically-engineered food, roll-out chopping boards and draws. A lot of the elements found in IKEA’s concept kitchen are found in luxury custom designed kitchens.

We shall see what the future truly holds, but until then, we will be providing our clients with kitchens full of the latest technologies.
