Monte Carlo Desk by David Linley

Monday, October 25, 2010

Nephew to the Queen of England, David Linley, has just created a one-of-a-kind writing desk valued at $100,000. The writing desk pays reverence to Monaco’s most notable landmark- the Monte Carlo Casino. The desk features the famed Beaux-Arts building as its central gallery, with stylized archways on either side, it bears marquetry detailing in various veneers representing the windows, columns, galleries and balusters of the casino.

The exquisite architecture of this desk is a natural result of both the intricate design and precise and beautiful craftsmanship. The main body of the desk is constructed in American walnut with inlays of Santos rosewood and sycamore, while the writing surface is covered in rich dark red leather. Six hand-carved figurines conquer the rooftop, and further enhance the majestic look created by Linley.

Aside from its superior craftsmanship, the desk creates a mysterious nature by housing six secret drawers each opened by unique mechanisms. On the underside of the doomed lid of the box is a marquetry depiction of the Monegasque flag in red sycamore and holly.

This desk is the perfect addition to any custom designed home.
