Sowing seeds

Woo, hoo - I quickly put seeds of ruby chard, regular chard, Siberian kale, red Russian kale, Oriental giant spinach, bulbing fennel, and some various Asian greens in my cowpots late this afternoon. The heating pad felt warm; maybe the pots will warm up too and the seeds will germinate....

This is all very unscientific and hardly precise (hmm, I don't actually sound like I was trained as a scientist), but this is a celebration of February 1, and spring to come.

But it was lovely to actually poke a finger in some nice potting soil and contemplate what's to come.

Furnishings, colors, and accessories all need to be carefully considered to make sure the room will offer the utmost comfort.

Choices of Color

The decision of the wall color will be an important one in master bedroom interior design. You will want a tone that is pleasant, not too stimulating and which will help to create the desired atmosphere of intimacy. Nearly any color can be used if it is picked in the correct shade for the size of room. If colors are too dark they can make the room feel closed in and much smaller. This may work for a large room that has a good deal of lighting, but can make a small room feel oppressive. Colors that are too light or muted can create a washed out and boring look to a larger room. When picking a color, you will do well to collect a number of samples and look at them in the room. Once the painting has begun, if the color is not what was desired, don't hesitate to stop. Changes should be made before it is too late.

Choice of Bedding

Choose carefully the patterns for bedding and furnishings. If there are two people who occupy the master bedroom, both should have equal input as to the design and colors. Nothing is more frustrating in master bedroom interior design than to come to the completion of the project and to have one person hate it. Allowing time and energy to get the just-right patterns and theme will be well worth it. There are always ways to find a compromise which two people can be happy with. Even if one person likes fishing and another person prefers bouquets of flower, a compromise can always be worked out.

Worlds In Miniature.

I've spent the whole day weeding. I find it very hard to stick to doing one thing and keep seeing other jobs that need doing but today I stayed on task and cleared several of the heather banks. I did have a senior moment after lunch when I spent about 10 mins looking for my secateurs. I'd raced indoors at lunchtime because it was raining , leaving them - so I thought on a bush. I did find them eventually, under some leaves lower down the bank. There have been a few arial interruptions today. First it was a low flying fighter jet plane probably on its way over to Wales where they are allowed to skim the deserted mountains. Then a helicopter flying low. It was the red air-ambulance helicopter, (funded by charity and very necessary in this rural location). It flew low over the valley up to Indicott, turned and came back at about tree height, turned at the corner of the garden, slid over Paul's hill (I'd walked up the road by this time) and flew at minimum height towards East Down. Then it came back and headed off north, they were obviously having difficulty finding the place they had been called to. I hope the casualty got to hospital safely.

Having decided not to show boring weeding pictures instead I thought I'd show some rock pools from yesterday.

Snakelocks sea anemones. I have to admit to teasing them a bit with some dried seaweed which they grabbed in an alarming manner. I didn't use my finger because the book says that they do have a painful sting.

A more gentle beadlet sea anemone sharing its pool with at least 5 kinds of molluscs.

Finally, a group of dog whelks guarding their eggs with another beadlet sea anemone. All these rock pools were no more than 2 or 3 inches across but contained a wealth of life. Isn't nature wonderful ?
